Children and Young People

Many children are unable to identify  - with clarity - the emotions they’re experiencing. This means when working with your child, we’d be less likely to talk as adults might. The work is likely to be more active and playful.

We might come at an issue through drawing, painting, collage, story or imaginary journey work, perhaps using miniature figures, or clay. We would start with a free exploratory chat between the three of us, so parent or caregiver, the young person and the coach. If we contract to work together, your child and I might work on emotional issues,  social skills,  concentration and perseverance tasks, self esteem or self control,  or gaining mastery over events and issues.

Perhaps school confidence has been knocked with the recent pandemic. We can build this up. Your young person will receive kindly support where they feel comfortable, safe, valued and respected.

I work with young people (aged 16 upwards) as a Therapeutic Coach. My background in teaching and (academic) tutoring of children means I understand children’s issues, the school system, and parental concerns. I hold a DBS check, available upon request.

Safeguarding Policy and working with Young People aged 16-18

Safeguarding means protecting the health, wellbeing and human rights of vulnerable people, supporting them to live as free as possible from harm, abuse and neglect.

Safeguarding young people and promoting their welfare means:

·    Protecting them from maltreatment, abuse and neglect or things that are bad for their health or development.

·    Supporting them in having a place to grow up, which provides safe and effective care.

·    Keeping what is said in our sessions private, unless a young person is in immediate danger, when they will be included in the decision about what we do next.

·    Ensuring the young person and their parent and caregiver understand the processes of coaching and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), its intended purpose and its limitations.

·    Ensuring that a young person is not treated as a small adult, because a young person has additional needs.

·    I am an LGBTQ positive practitioner.

·    I welcome you, whatever your ethnicity, neurodivergence or background.
